1983 SL Becker Grand Prix Removal
1983 SL Becker Grand Prix Removal
My original Becker is working sporadically. Sometimes the the stereo light stays on and flashes with the key off. It will drain my battery in a few days. After looking at beckers site the removal instructions were too generic and not applicable to my car. Old searches were also futile. Please help. Thanks, Stan |
I'd like to know for my '85 as well. I'll be doing this later today (hopefully).

With the ash tray assembly gone you can see two plastic
tabs under each side of the Becker. Push and hold down these tabs and wiggle the radio out. You should be able to grasp the radio from the bottom of the tape door (if applicable) push one tab and slide one side out a bit. Then the other tab/side a bit and then the whole thing slide out. Be careful you don't bust the tape door. |

I guess the question is how to remove the wood panel.

The wood panel comes off easily after the ashtray & ashtray bracket are removed. This does expose the two clips. Pull the 2 clips down simultaneously and gently pull the radio out from the casette door with a 90 degree tool. There was a gromet with a screw that keeps the radio firm in the rear/side of the frame. I had to remove the glove compartment to access this gromet and remove it so it can slip out the dash. That's it.:)
