Sun Visor Insert Removal

Can someone please tell me how to remove the plastic piece containing the vanity mirror from the sun visir in my 97 SL 500? I assume this must be a simple operation since it must surely be required in order to replace the vanity lamp. I hesitate to attempt to pry the piece out for fear of damaging the visor. Thanks!

Not familar with 97SL. But I can tell how it works on my 88 560SL. There is a metal rod attached the window frame which has a "elbow". You need to align your visor parallel with it and that is only angle you can slide the visor away from the rod.

Hope it helps.
