1999 500sl convertible top

My convertible top stops in the 12 o'clock postion when raising it up. eveything else works, top goes down and locks ok. but wont go all the way up? any help? thanks

You can do a search on this, which will yield enough posts to keep you reading all weekend!. There is a top contoller and all kinds of sensors that could be a problem. I recommend the easiest thing first. Have you disconnected the battery lately or screwed with the car electrically in any way? If so, it might be that you simply have to re-sync the windows. With the top down, try running the windows full up and down 2-3 times. Then try the top. It should go up all the way with no problem.

If not, it is time to read the trouble codes recorded on your computer and go from there.

Check the fluid level in the pump reservoir, under the spare tire, that was the problem with my 1999 SL
