ac problem and blower
 

air conditioner went out yesterday while driving. The light on the console is blinking after turning off the engine you can still hear the blower running. We have had problems with the soft top on our 500Sl and finally day before yesterday unplugged the battery and the computer reset itself and it was all good until yesterday late in the afternoon.

Checked fuses and all seems good there.

any ideas out there?

When asking for help in the SL forum it is important to include information as to either the chassis type or model year.

Sorry, 1993 500SL, Husband says that it seems to be a computer problem. How would we check that? Is it checkable?

I followed that link and also went to one on Wikki. I was able to retrieve the codes however I could not get it to erase the codes. It has defaulted to defrost and we are in the South. Mornings are cool and day time is hot.

How do I erase the codes or should I email and get the code meanings and then try to fix it. The Wikki said it was an air circulation problem that caused it to default to defrost. Any suggestions? Also the air went out at the same time that we let the top down. There has to be a connection but what?

Thanks for your help so far and any further insight into the problem would be greatly appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge....there is no connection ( electronically or mechanically ) between the top position ( up or down ) and the functioning of the climate controll system. If the blower flaps have defaulted to defrost, there is a vacuum problem or a controller problem. It could be the controller itself, power to the controller, the vacumm switcher valve ( selects which flaps get actuated ) or one of the vacuum actuators/motors . Much has been written in the SL forum regarding the "default to defrost" problem. I suggest using the form search tool and read the various threads. Like.... Search on defrost, vacuum, valve etc.
