Small 107 Bumpers

I have the small bumpers on my 1986 300sl.

This is on EBay - not listed very well so I think someone will get a deal.
Item number: 130163494295

I hope you're not selling these original bumpers to replace them w/the ugly American version.

I just got rear ended while stationary at a traffic light and discovered that a bumper of this type sells new for just under $1,000.00 - that's including the rubber. Luckily that was the only damage.

The rear bumper on out '72 350SL has chrome peeling off in one area.

Is it much of a job to remove the bumper (for an aging owner!)

Alternative is to have a body shop remove it and send it for re-chroming.

We are all aging Graham.....the question is...for how long?

Not a hard job. Would take an experienced younger aging person about an hour. Tops.

I will have a look at it today. MB Manual devoted two lines to this job - Remove two screws in trunk and two in L&R fenders. Pull bumper to rear. Sounds too easy!

At least on this occasion someone else's insurance is paying for both my bumper and its replacement. If you're in no hurry, Graham, I'll let you know what the body shop charges for labour. As a "younger aging person" myself, I don't think I'd have a problem in taking it off - it would be the replacement process with which I'd likely have trouble!

Where did my reply go - Must have forgotten to hit send

Anyway, what I said, was that I had a look at the bumper and it does seem to be held by just 4 bolts all accessible from the trunk. Just remove them and pull the whole bumper off!

Looking at the confusing parts book, it seems that the corner wrap around chrome pieces are separate from the main bumper. So, if I could find a used driver side piece, I could just exchange it instead of rechroming.

Anyone happen to have a damaged euro style bumper with a good LH side corner piece? Or know of an online source?
