engine stall on 560 SL
I have a 1986 560 SL 128,000 miles which developed a stalling problem at idle last fall (did not drive it much over the winter). With the engine warm there is a 50/50 chance whether or not the engine will accelerate or stall out and die when you push on the pedal (even gentley accelerating), always starts right back up. I have been making some very small adjustments in the fuel distributor but it does not solve the probelm. Since this has been happening the engine seems to run rough at start up when cold, otherwise the engine runs great down the road and at warm idle it sounds fine. I the past couple of years I have replaced the two Bosch fuel pumps and filter, replaced injectors, replaced distributor cap rotor and plug wires. Have cleaned up most of the wire connections on the engine sensors and controls. I did replace the O2 sensor a couple of years ago but never felt sure that I had it working properly. Any thoughts on what I should be looking at?

engine stall
I've had a similar issue as you.
ive be fighting this for a long time. what I have replaced coolant temp sensor can feeds to the computer and the idle control module still had issues so then just replaced last night idle control module ignition coil ignition control module vac lines look ok. no leaks to be found. I drove it for over an hour and had it idling for 15 mins and no issues arose. still in test phase but I think I have fixed my problems. this may help you. |

engine stall 560
scnstlr, thanks for your feedback, I guess I need to look in to the idle control module, where did you get your parts? And where is the coolant temp sensor located? Thanks Woody
