Removal of Cassette Tray 1995 SL 500

I have a cassette storage tray without the sliding cover in my 1995 SL 500. I have two options - replace the cover or pull out the cassette organizer. Someone told me there is an aftermarket cup holder that slides in where the cassette tray is now. Does anyone have a link to a site that sells that kind of stuff?

Sounds like an after-market deal. Phil says there is no official M-B part for this.

Thanks. I'll give them a try.

The part number for the plain tray which replaces the cassette storage holder in a 1991 model 129 is either 129-680-09-91 or 129-683-0000-RSM I've written both of those numbers in my "book" under cassette replacement tray, but it was so long ago that I bought mine that I don't remember why I have two numbers. I may well be that this is a discontinued item now. BTW It is not a cup holder. Just a deep plastic liner. It's just barely wide enough to hold CD's if you drop them in from corner to corner.

I removed my cassette holder and installed the storage insert mentioned above. (129 680 09 91) It actually works pretty well as a cup holder even though the hole is rectangular... not ideal as a cup holder, but a decent substitute!

I thought I read somewhere that someone was offering an aftermarket cup holder that fit in there, but can't find it now.

I got one on ebay and it works great - simple to install - pull out cassette and slip in storage tray

I ordered mine from Fastlane for about half that amount and received it quickly. It is, after all, an available MB part.

Yes, it snaps in pretty easily!
