Opinions On '91 500SL AMG
 

There's a guy selling one for $11K. KBB value is around $15K, though it doesn't list an AMG option package. Were all 500SL's the AMG version back then?

Wondering what folks thought of this model year.

Any problems I should be looking for when I give it a once-over and test drive?

There is no such thing as a 1991 500SL AMG. Someone put an AMG badge on the car.

AMG did not come into the R129 product line until MY 93-98 with the SL60 and 99-01 with the SL55 and SL73.

I had a '91 500SL with AMG body kit that I sold a couple of years ago. They are very, very rare, and I looked at eBay to see if it was my old car. Ironically, the eBay car is in Atlanta where my car was sold, but it is not my car.

The eBay car has the body panels from the later sport package cars, but the front bumper is original-style. The deck-lid spoiler I believe is incorrect for any version of the sport package.

'90-'92 are all good years for the 500SL.

Actually, the car's for sale in Hawaii. I'll bring this up to the owner, that the AMG was not offered in '91 and see what he says. I always did like this specific body style the best. :):P
