94 sl320 massive gas leak in back
Took off smelled gas. Stopped rain of gas under back wheels. Went right back.
I believe Ive located the link under the back left near the back left wheel. A white L shaped valve. One end of the L goes up and the other is attached with a cheap clamp to presumably a fuel line. It appears that the gas is coming from above the L but not for sure as it could be squirting/oozing to above the L valve. I dont have a shop manual so a diagram would be sooo helpful. Im looking again for a shop manual. Adsit is out of mine. Im looking elsewhere. The gas tank is back left? Because my gas receptacle is on the right I assumed its on the right. Finally, strangely there was some gas in the bottom of the trunk resorvoir, the very bottom. It might have gone up my the old damaged drain valve but it was more than a few teaspoons. odd. Anyway if you have had this problem or have some pointers I would very much appreciate it.

worse or better im not sure. Its not the L valve but a line immediately next to it. Im impressed that line pokes thru a condom like rubber to attach to the line under the car. However this rubber is working against me pushing the line back on as it gets in between hose and metal line and generally pushes. Its a very very tight spot just above the drive shaft on the left side. Removal of this left shaft would make it easier but it seems much to just get the one line reattched......

Help!!
Apparently its one of the gas lines to the tank.
Problem is that the rear axle is in the way or at least makes it near impossible to get to. Very simple problem - the line came off the male end. Difficulties - a rubber grommet which pushes against the female hose part going on the male. How important is this grommet/rubber? what does it do? Second cant get leverage to push from underneath. Is there another way or do I need to remove the rear axle to get proper access?

 This is from my 91 300SL. I have two fuel pumps, so it may be different from your vehicle. What part # is the problem? I have no experience with the fuel system, but maybe if the guys here get enough information, we can come up with some ideas. I'm guessing your problem is on the return line. Also, it might help to post your request to one of the other areas besides the SL group. These cars are all quite similair in how they are built. I can't imagine having to remove parts of the axel or suspension to access the fuel connections. There is usuallly a "trick" or "tool" to solve these problems as I've often learned.

I removed what appears to be a rear sway bar or maybe a stabilizer to gain better access but you can still only get a hand on it.....

well spoke to a mb mech and he didnt think there was an access panel offhand. hes searching my vin.
so axel it is. it is the 50 mm right?

took apart the trunk to just before removing gas tank panel. from the looks of it there is no access panel on this end.
other possible option is behind the drivers side seat or under amp/stereo brain behind drivers seat. Instead of digging for what may be nothing. just going to do drive shaft removal to gain access. Unless someone says otherwise between now and tomorrow around 10.

gas line - to gas tank
Well I got a confirmation on yahoo answers. Two people had similar problem and both said drive shaft has to go.
new problem - inner bolts on axel have previous strip markings. so im gona remove the wheel end. Working on getting hub off. In case anyone else has this problem. I may remove gas tank and reattach lines while tank is out and then feed them in from top if removing axel wheel side only does not allow for enough access, Last edited by Mal; 01-27-2008 at 03:55 PM.

Well
It appears you do have to remove the drive shaft to access this line. I put this question on yahoo questions and two people responded saying yes you have to remove the drive shaft in order to access the gas line meeting the gas tank. go figure. wth. I have to access from wheel side b/c the bolts at the differential side are stripped. So if anyone knows a good thread for taking apart the drive shaft/wheel assembly for rear tires please let me know. thanks.
