power window problem 380sl
hi
my power windows stopped working. i checked the fuses and all are okay. the wiring diagram indicates a relay in the circuit that powers both left and right window. i suspect that this may be the problem (?). Does anyone know where this relay is located? Is there a way to check the relay? Has anyone had similar problem with the windows? I searchd the threads and have not found any help/ Thanks as always for your help. |

In your opinion do you think the relay may be the problem? Have youhad any experience inthe malfunctioning windows? Can you check the relay? Thanks for any insight. |

power windows.
Possible help: I have had stuck power windows and have sprayed WD 40 into inside of door at window mechanism and motor. This has helped solve my problem several times. May not work if electrical problem or relay, worth a try. good luck, Abe G

the power window problem has been fixed. it was the relay which is mounted in the passenger footwell above the fuse box. there are five relays, four of which are the same (aux fan, compressor, window motors, air injection management). I pulled the window relay (lower RHS) and the aux fan relay (above the window relay) and swapped positions. Viola! the windows operate once again. I was able to get a replacement relay for 15.99. also noted that the relays are dated.... the aux fan and window were 8/82. The other two were obviously replaced since they each had a 1993 year date. My point: it seems that these do fail periodically so be aware. Also the CD Electrical Wiring Volume stated that the window relay was on the LHS of the passenger footwell. After taking apart the LHS and center console.I decided to remove the panel above the footwell and there on the Right Hand Side was the relay panel. Hmmmm....bad editing??
Again as usual thanks for your provided tips. |

Actually, they are oriented in more of a diamond pattern, i.e. .......1 .....2......3 ...........4 where 3 is the window relay in my car. As you did, I temporarily swapped two relays out (3 and 4 in my diagram) and the windows worked again. This malfunction happened either in connection with, or just coincidentally at the very same time as, the swap out of my temperature regulator (described in this thread: View of 107 ACC Modules ). Go figure. Fix one thing, break another. Thanks again. I was REALLY happy to find your followup post. Bought a few spares on eBay and will install upon arrival.
