ASR, Part Deux

Hi All -

Background:
94 SL500 (129.067), 190k miles.

Car acts as though it has a mind of its own. When the car is cold, it runs like a jewel. If it warms up and then is parked for between 5 and 30 minutes and restarted, it idles roughly. Then when you go to accelerate, the car seems to have a mind of its own -- the accelerator goes to full "floored" position and then lets up, then the ASR light comes on.

Took it to my friendly neighborhood MB tech. He replaced:
Coolant Sensor
Oxy Sensor
Mass Flow Sensor
Accelerator Pot
Billed me $1400 for the lot.

Car worked fine for him, but it's back to doing the same thing again - surge, ASR, "limp home", no reset after car has been turned off. Car cools down for a couple of hours, starts with no ASR light. Then the process starts all over again.

Is there a way to deactivate the ASR in the 94 129.067? If so, will the deactivation still allow for the operation of the ABS?

Is there anything else my tech could be missing that is causing the accelerator to surge and the ASR to light?

Please help!

Thanks,
BP

I would certainly start by learning how to read the fault codes and then reading them regularly. Replaced the "accelerator pot?" Would this be the potentiometer on the throttle accuator? I didn't think your car had a replaceable potentiometer, and even if it did the part has been discontinued.

Wow -

What a shame. It's strange - I'm more than willing to admit that I'm a newbie, but you're also more than willing to admit that you will flame anyone who isn't an expert in these cars.

I'm not a tech, and obviously I'm paraphrasing. Basically, for those that can read between the lines of a newbie, the tech with the code reader replaced everything that the reader said was a problem, but the problem persists.

My question is still the same as it was when I originally posted it (for anyone who isn't going to flame me for asking a newbie question or not using the "right" terminology): Is there a way to disable the ASR on the 94 SL500, without disabling the Anti-lock or forcing it into "limp-home" mode?

Any understanding and patient replies are welcome -
