1997 SL500 Sport front bumper

Hi...anybody know how difficult it is to get a used front bumper that would fit a 97 SL500 sport edition? I am looking to replace my front bumper because it is so beat up. I am going to start calling junk yards and see what comes up. Does anybody also know if other year's sport front bumpers would fit my 1997? Not interested in a non sport front bumper.

You can probably get it repaired to original conditions. There are a number of local businesses that specialize in bumper skin repairs. Look in the phone book. They come to you, remove the bumper skin, take to their shop for repairs/ repaint, then come back and install it. Had mine done for $350 ( including patching a very large hole ). Came out looking like new. MB body shop wanted $1300 just for a new skin (before painting).

Possible Alternative?

This link to ebay came up on another forum. Seems to be an 'interesting' approach/alternative for what you're looking for...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-2002-99-Mercedes-Benz-SL-Class-R129-AMG-Body-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36475QQihZ010QQitemZ200166508532QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I have no first hand knowledge about the manufacturer, it's products, quality, etc. other than what I read here. Like tecqboy, I just had mine repaired/resprayed and they do turn out well. Had I known about this kit, I'd have been tempted!

Bob, be careful with 'creative_auto_designs'. If you do some research on this this eBay store you will find that there customer service sucks.

I have also utilized a local SoCal mobile auto bumber repair with great success. In my case I just had the bumper resprayed 040 black and it turned out great and still looks good.

Lynn, if I'd gotten past the 'research' point on whether creative's product as represented had the quality required, customer service would/could be a factor.

From what we both learned at the site you moderate is that the quality is lacking, primarily in 'fit', which, in my view, is a showstopper. FYI, when your forum's conversation started to throw this company under the bus from a 1st hand perspective, I sent two 'invitations' to Creative to join in to either stand up for their product or at least explain to those interested in it why it was a good alternative to consider. To date, if they showed, they've been silent....of course that string devolved into a 'guess Mr. Texas' age/IQ' discussion so if Creative did show up, I suspect they were dutifully impressed.

Bob
