Unhappy 1995 SL500 w/34k - Mysterious Problem-Need Help

1995 SL500 w/34k - Like New
Last week I parked the car in the garage, after running great.
Last night, started right up, wonderfully. Lowered the driver's side window. Turned on head lights. Then noticed battery light came on. Then noticed there was no power and I had to push the accelerator pedal 3/4 down to get it to back out of the garage (seems to be running on only a few cylinders, smelled lots of un-burnt fuel). Now, noticed none of the windows would go up or down, with headlights on or off. Barely pulled car back into garage. Turned car off, then all windows would go up and down. Noticed slight presure release after fuel cap opening. I am baffeled. What would cause this phenomenon and what can I do to resolve it? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

With a volt meter hooked on the battery posts.
Check your battery and the alternator.
Battery volts more then 12 engine off.
Engine running around 13.5
I think you need a battery.

THanks for your advise. I checked the battery voltage: 32v both while connected and disconnected to the vehicle. With the engine running: 48v Sounds a bit strange, but those are the correct readings. Have not checked the alternator and obviously I need to. Will take the battery to Sears for a check as well. Any other thoughts after this newly added information?

The readings are wrong.
The Battery is 12 volts.
Do not disconnect the battery.

Never disconnect the battery and run the engine.

I repeat with engine off, more then 12v
With engine on between 12.5v-14.5v.

Did you have the meter on DC volts?

There is no way to have 32v-48v.
