UT ACCll Heater Servo replacement kit

Does anyone have any experience with the heater servo replacement kit marketed by Performance Products? This kit replaces the heater servo and amplifier with electronic controls that are supposed to provide factory performance with modern reliability. The price is less than half of what replacing the factory parts would be ($699US versus $1800US).
I had replaced the factory parts about 6 or 7 years ago, and they are on the fritz again so I am very interested in the replacement kit.
Any info would be greatly apprecitated.
The following link will direct you to the Performance Products web page.

I saw that and it looks like a good idea - although see if you can find the company that makes the parts. How do you fix it if the new parts fail?

best,

I was initially skeptical, but then I read the instructions. Someone put a lot of thought and work into this.

I would only point out that for $499 you can get a aluminum servo that is supposed to fix most of the problems and $79 will get you a rebuilt amplifier. Nobody goes to a dealer for this stuff.

I need your help guys.
One little transistor of my amplifier is fried and I would like to replace this component. Unfortunately I can't read the reference number anymore as a result of the heat. And in the electronic-shop they can't help me without this number.
Could on of you please tell me what is printed on the little black transistor element, just between a red rectangular component and another similar looking transistor ?
This would safe me 150 Euro.

Thanks a lot

Kind regards from Belgium

Marc

UnwiredTools ACCII Upgrade Kit

I don't want to be guilty of pushing our stuff here on the forum. I just want to comment that we have had a very nice response from our customers & shops who have worked with our ACCII Upgrade Kit. We spend a lot of time on improving documentation and adding new bits and pieces as we get feedback for making the installation process better.

We support every installation and offer a 5 year warranty on the product. It is available through Performance Products, Fastlane as well as from your local Mercedes shop.

If you have specific questions about the product or the installation process, please feel free to contact us, we're here to help. All of our contact info is available on our website, including a user forum and detailed installation instructions.

Thanks for your consideration and sorry for the plug.

I am in the same boat Frank. I have had my 1979 300D for about 4 years now. I bought it from the original owner. Always been in a heated garage. The car has less then 100,000 miles. It is in showroom condition. But now my mechanic tells me that the climate control system servo motor does not work correctly. I have been fighting the heating system for a while now. Then it works real well, then it does not. I just priced the replacement for $1700. Then I came upon your Upgrade Kit. I printed out the instructions and it seems like a gem. I am just so afraid that when I install the thing the whole thing might not work at all. What do I do then? I really need some input. Thanks

Did you notice that Frank posted that message over two years ago? He may not even be there any more.

* Fasted, have you talked to George Murphy at Performance Analysis (865.482.9175)? George offers servo repairs and rebuilds. What George doesn't know about that generation ACC in general and the servos in particular probably isn't worth knowing. I wouldn't be surprised if he could save you a lot of money on a superior part.

I purchased one of these kits for my 1979 450SL. It works GREAT. The temperature control is better than the climate control system in my 1982 380SL. I installed the controller behind the glove compartment, and only ran the vacuum line solenoid control lines out to the solenoids, which are mounted on a bracket attached next to the radiator reservoir. This cleans up the area the original control unit sat in. They replace the temperature sensors with their own sensors, which they relocate to a location on the air coming out of the heater/ac unit, giving much better control of the actual temperature. I would recommend this upgrade to anyone desiring a unit that is trouble-free. Incidently, if you call their number Frank is usually the person that picks up the call. They gave me a free upgrade to their product to the latest version, as the one I bought at Performance Products was a downlevel version, which I thought was pretty nice of them. They definitely stand behind their servos.

I have one of these digital servos in my '81 380SL. My indy recommended it over the original part when my old one died. He installed the upgrade kit and I will take to him if it ever fails. It has been in for about two years and no trouble. I'm happy with it!
