The mercedes dealership has the records for regular oil changes before 50k, I bought the car at 50k. In fact it had a new timing belt so someone was very meticulous before I owned it.
The case specifically is that I drove the car after it had too much fuel in the oil due to the fuel pressure regulator causing the bottom end to run dry which increased the clearances and is causing the low oil pressure. Additionally there is probably scoring in the cylinder walls due to the fuel/oil mixture. Any way you slice it, it was my fault for continuing to run the engine. The new engine should be in this week or early next week. It's a cost, but the car is very clean and the trans is already rebuilt with a warranty so I figured 5-6k engine and labor spent now was better than 12k at auction for an SL with 80k and an unknown history.
