Oil Pressure Indication - 280 SL

On Mercedes 280 SL 1978 - Is it normal to have oil pressure indication between 1,5 and 2 (amid of the scale) when the engine is running on idle power. Thanks

On my 560SL when I fist start the car the oil pressure sits just under 3 as the oil is thicker, as the car warms up this drops to around 2.5. I find my car sits at 2.5 when warm on idle and always 3 when driving.

What does your gauge read then the engine's under load?

That is normal.

When you pick up the rpm it should always peg instantly.

When the egine is very hot as from coming off the hiway after a high speed trip it will drop to its lowest at idle as the oil will be good and hot and at its thinnist.

I concur... normal oil pressure for a warm engine at idle (equal to about 21-28psi). Incidentally, I surmise, since you used a comma to indicate "1 and a half", that you are from the east side of the pond?

I have a 280 as well and what you described is normal.
