Chirping sound from manual clutch assembly

I have a 1977 350 SL (116-984 engine) with a manual transmission. I replaced the engine a year ago and it runs great but the car sounds like it's "chirping" while idling. This occurs while the car is in nuetral and the clutch pedal is not depressed at all, if I fully depress the clutch pedal it stops. I do hear a related "whirring" sound when cruising too. What could be causing this?

That would be the release bearing. You will need to drop the trani for that. Might also be a good time to change the pilot bearing and check the life of the clutch. I changed the slave cylinder while I was in there as well as the trani oil.
