does your fan switch light up? 450SL (72)

My top fan switch does not illuminate at night. The AC switch does (bottom)
Is this the way it is suppose to work? I have removed switch but see no place for a bulb?

I think there should be a fibre optic cable to that switch. It's a little less than 1/8" diameter with a brass end. It fits into a small hole in the back of the switch. They pop out easily, look around the rats nest of wiring and you should see it laying there.

I could not find it, and I also figured out that the AC light on the dial comes on when I turn the fan switch to on, so I am not sure if that is by design or by screw up

Both my AC and Fan switches are lit all the time (sounds alcoholic)...anyway, I have two bulbs behind that panel than snap into two clear plastic fixtures...those two fixtures deliver the light to all the controls on that panel. Mine is a different year, so I"m not sure if it would be the same as yours, but one light is on the bottom and the other is on the top.

mine is not the same, I had it apart while working on tje dash this weekend. I dont really see how it could light up. Strange
