Mine is a 74 450 SL, if yours is the same then remove the door panel. You will see a terminal strip with two wires connected. Look for 12 volts there when the window switch is activated. Warning...what stops the window from going up too far or down too far is a mechanical stop, so power is still applied to the motor and it will continue to try to drive the window even though it has hit the mechanical limit. So clip your voltmeter to the terminal and only run the window long enough to see if the 12 volts is present. If present but no window movement, you need a new motor, or the wires from that terminal to the motor could be broken. If no 12 volts present then the switch is bad or wiring from the switch to the motor terminal block.
Look on the message boards for info on removing the door panel, there is quite a lot of help available...........Dan

There are three screws holding the motor on. They have a 10mm head if I remember correctly. See the pic. This is from the passenger side. Still works if anyone is looking.

I just pulled my window motor out of the passenger side. I removed the nuts/bolts that secure the whole track mechanism to the inside of the door. 2 of the motor bolts can be removed from an access hole by moving the whole track to line the bolt with the access hole. The 3rd would not line up with the access hole so I used a small ratchet and 10mm socket. I took the motor housing off and saw that the plastic gear was stripped in one area which is why my window would stop moving up or down after a sec or 2.

Would you please give a bit more detail as to hhow to get at the bolts holding the motor. I have a 1973 and I unbolted the X-Sissor mechanism and let it hang down and I still can't get to the bolts holding the motor. Thanks

That is exactly the problem ,getting acess to the back and the third bolt holding the motor. Do I have to remove the forward channel and remove the glass from the door. HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!

No, the channel and the window do not need to be removed. You do have to remove the window regulator though in order to get your hands inside the door cavity. Once you remove the regulator, slide the window into the up position and block it in place. You can then reach in and feel for the last bolt and use the appropriate tools to remove it. I think I had to use a 1/4-inch drive ratchet or a 10mm wrench. This is all to the best of my recollection.

Thanks to all .The regulator finally came out with a lot of twisting and turning. I replaced the motor and reintaled the regulator. Now the problem is reinstalling the interior door panel. The weatherstripping is too tight for the window and pushes and strains the window glass. How do you attach the weatherstrip? On the panel before panel is placed on door or what? Thanks

window adjustment needed
If your window is straining when you close it, it will need adjusting so it doesn't get overstressed. I think it is easier (or necessary) to make the adjustments with the door panel off. At the very least, the window stops need to be adjusted with the panel off. Be very careful tightening bolts, I inadvertently sent my passenger window crashing to the bottom of the door cavity in a bazillion pieces while tightening the "last" bolt.
Adjustments from what I understand are a bit tricky, just need a little finesse and patience. Good luck!

The window is not strained when I close it. The window strains against the weatherstripping when I bring the window up. There is virtually no room for the window and the weatherstripping. I am at a lost as to how to connect the weatherstrip clips, to the door or to the panel and then the combined panel with the strip to the door. thanks again.
