Question Turn Signal Problem

Have a 88 560SL, The turn signal lever does not return to off (center) position after making turn. Once in awhile the lever will return by itself??

mine was just the opposite but when I had my steering wheel off I sprayed cleaner into the mechanism and worked it back and forth and now it works.
Perhaps if you pull the rubber boot back and give it a spray cleaner cleaning it will take care of it, if not they are an easy item to remove and replace.

Melted Panda,

After steering wheel removal, what and how do you replace the mechanism ??

Thanks for the help,

You may not need to remove steering wheel, I just happend to have mine off.
Peel back the rubber boot and you should see 2 screws, these connect the lever to the column. This has a large wire pig tail attached. You will have to follow that down to disconnect. You may need to remove some under dash panels to do that.
I would try the spray cleaning first and also make sure the boot is not prohibiting any free lever movement.
