I went to a local guy and he quoted $200 to do the job, seems reasonable? The price includes parts and labor.

door strap popping

I am not sure of what the door strap looks like but be sure to check the connection to the jamb. My Porsche uses a removable pin to attach to the jamb. It was popping on opening. I replaced the strap mechanism and the pop continued. Thinking the metal was fractured, I put in a reinforcement kit. It still popped. I finally discovered that the pin was not fully forced into place. One tap with a hammer and it was fixed. The attachment to the jamb will get the most abuse. Good luck.

Tom, if you take a look at the picture located at door check popping on 87 560SL you will see what is lnow as a 'door check strap/stay'. It's the entire mechanism that makes up the door check strap. ALL R107 and R129 driver side doors will need one eventually. Pending mileage.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen, Lynn
