Question Anyone with Maserati Exposure?

Thought I would slip over to the SL forum and see if anyone has any Maserati exposure? I am traveling Saturday to pick up a showroom bi-turbo convertible in St Louis (10K on the clock). The car has been PPI, but is their any tribulations to these girls that should be known. I will be driving in back to MS.

Very limited exposuer 25 years ago. I havent worked on a bi-turbo but I can say that years ago Masserati was the biggest pain in the A car to work on of any car I worked on. There appeared to be no consideration for making maintenance easy for a technichian, This is typical of all the Italian cars I worked on.

Well all went well once I figured out how to open the hood and gas tank
Aside from driving a vett and an SL I really don't have any experience with performance vehicles. The 7 hour drive back was incredible!

Keep a Fire Extinguisher Nearby

If it is the Biturbo from the 80's I've heard they have a propensity to have engine fires. Better keep an extinguisher handy.

THey Make the British Lucas Electric systems look well designed...they are plagued with electrical issues sort of Like The later Alfa Romeos were...

seriously..I drove one...sweet running car when its running...saw a LOT of them broken down on the shoulder of the road in Italy in the late 80's and early 90's.

Could have bought them for about $4K dollars with about 40K kilometers on them from used car dealers back then too. Trust me this was before the WWW and the trove of info availible.

It was rainy, cool, yucky all the way back from St Louis

BHD - it ran very well . But my god no gas mileage 3 fill ups comming back and had 3/4 tank on delivery. Like 11 mpg. Ergonomic seating in this car was incredible. Short owneship, back at 5:30 Sunday it belogned to someone else @ 6PM Monday night. This was kinda a risky deal but it worked . Knowing ZERO about these girls, that's why I was inquiring. Little things like opening the hood WTF has a push button thingy like remote camera shutter switch.

Oh, trust me..when everything work its a beauty to drive.I drove a European spec 2.0 twin turbo...Back in 1988 I almost bought (but saw some rust repair after the original owner claimed no rust or accident damage) ..that reverse shift pattern is unusual. It was not the convertible one however...

Electrical switches on those are tempermental...and I have heard the same about the cooling systems..

Its certainly no benz but it does have the flair the Italians are famous for.

But 11 mpg..I'm going to venture a guess that you have injectors that need looked at...thats mighty bad mleage

You are new to the forum, right? This thread is a couple of years old.

I remember doing this when I first hooked up here.

Welcome to the Shopforum.
