airco unit

Hi,
I have a 450SL from 1982.
I was removing the airco unit (the same one as W126) from the mid console and then the plug on the right side got loose. All ten little plugs came off because there was no lid attached to the big plug. Now I have 10 plugs to put in 12 holes and I do not have a wiring diagram which can show me where to put what color.

Can somebody help me out please? Thanks:)

You'll never find a wiring diagram for a 1982 450SL. 1980 was the last model year for the 450SL and the 380SL was produced between 1981 and 1985. If someone swapped the engine, you'll need to know what model year the engine came from. If someone rebadged the car you'll need to find a diagram for the 380SL.

Seems like you need to get the car to a good MB specialist who has a electrical engineer on the payroll to fix this issue. If they don't have a diagram, someone who knows what they're doing will work out the correct way of connecting the pins with a test meter.

Good luck

:o you are right.
it is a 380 SL from 1982.

I have 10 wires: black, brown/white, black/red, blue/red, yellow/black, yellow, red, brown, green and black/yellow. I just need to know to which pin each wire belongs. there are 12 numbered pins.

Anybody ??

Let me see if I can help. Using the Mercedes service CD, looks like there are two 12-pin plugs, but only one has 10 wires. This applies to USA and Japan models up to 1982 with the 8-cylinder engine:

1st connector:
Pin 1 = yellow/red
Pin 2 = black/blue
Pin 3 = brown
Pin 4 = brown/white
Pin 5 = black/green
Pin 6 = black/red
Pin 7 = yellow
Pin 8 = empty
Pin 9 = black/yellow
Pin 10 = blue/red
Pin 11 = empty
Pin 12 = yellow/black

Second connector:
Pin 1 = black/purple
Pin 2 = brown
Pin 3 = black/white
Pin 4 = black/blue/yellow
Pin 5 = black/green/white
Pin 6 = black/yellow/red
Pin 7 = brown/blue
Pin 8 = yellow/green
Pin 9 = brown/black
Pin 10 = black/red/purple
Pin 11 = blue/purple
Pin 12 = black/red

I would recommend that if you are going to do much work on your car, you should buy a service manual CD. Lots of info packed into the CD.

Disclaimer: I have did my best to double-check the colors with the manual, but cannot guarantee 100% accuracy.

Good Luck.

@ KCM : A big thank you :).

When the unit got loose the wires were laying in the order you mentioned.
That is great. Very important for me was also that I know now where the empty ones are.

Thanks from The Netherlands. (the SL is from the USA)
