96 SL500 Motor Mounts
When my repair shop was looking for the coolant leak, he said that my left motor mount was broken and I need to replace the right as well as the left. Price was quoted at $140.00 per mount.
Question: 1. Is it common for a motor mount to break 2. If so, should you replace both motor mounts Thanks |

1. yes, common for an 11 year old motor mount to fail, especially on a heavy V8. 2. Yes, need to replace both sides. $140 is a good price for an installed OEM mount. Make sure that's what you're getting.

Thanks, I did tell them to replace both mounts. The price is $140.00 each uninstalled. Looking on the Internet at MB parts dealers it looks like there might be fronts and backs for my 96 SL. One pair lists for about $140.00 each and says front. Another dealer says $98.00 to $109.00 but does not say front or back. They also look totally different. One is a Boge and the other is a Westar at $140.00.
Shop says it will take five hbours of labor. |

Motor mounts per se there's only two - left and right, and they are the same part on your car. The "rear" is actually the transmission mount. Boge is good, Westar - who knows, sounds like China. 5 hours of labor sounds high.
