1999 500SL want to buy code reader
 

can anyone recommend a site i can visit or just tell me what OBDll code reader i should buy? make and model?I have never used one before but I live 100 miles from the nearest mercedes dealer. so i would like to be able to read my own codes and be able to re-set warning lights. I've restored classic cars for thirty years but this computer stuff is new to me!! any advice would be appreciated. THANKS GUYS!!!!!

What do you want to be able to read. The only thing that will work properly is the mercedes Star Diagnostic's machne.

I'm going to make the assumption that you don't want to spend thousands. What you want is a top of the line, state of the art, upgradeable consumer level scanner. You can't really go wrong with either:

both of which are available on Ebay and elsewhere for significantly less than list price.

I basically want to be able to turn off my warning lights. everytime i disconnect the battery it seems to turn on two or three warning lights including engine check light. THANKS
