Radiator Replacement?

I've got an '86 560SL and the plastic part on the radiator where the water pump hose connects to the water pump (on the thermostat housing) is broken. This is up at the top R/H side of the radiator. There isn't even enough left to slide the hose forward and clamp it snug up against the radiator. What I'm asking is: does the entire radiator have to be replaced? I think I remember it being mentioned somewhere that that part of the radiator (it looks as if its been crimped on to the radiator) can be replaced without buying the entire radiator.
Am I crazy or do I have to do the logical and pay $600.00 for a radiator 'cause of a cheap peice of plastic.
Thanks!

I've never heard of anyone being able to get the plastic piece. If you've got MB salvage yards in your area you could try finding one there.

This problem comes up a lot on the diesel forum. The conventional wisdom over there is why risk your motor for a radiator that can be bought new for less than $200? At 600 the question may change. Some folks have tried gluing the neck back on and some folks have boughten some kindof metal sleeve to insert and glue, but you really don't want it breaking off out on the road where you might not notice it until you really get your motor hot.

Surely you can find a radiator for less than 600?

yes and no, they are not reliable once repaired. Try to find a used one or aftermarket
