Smile New Spark Plug Wires did the trick!

Been having such difficulties in getting my 75 SL running correctly without having to mortgage a condo...I went to someone today and he said the wires need replacing....after a 100 bucks, greasy and sweaty (yea 80 degrees today in Sflorida) car fired up and ran like it was new. Just wanted to let everyone know that i was told that the wires are usually a good place to begin. Yes, after new fuel pump filters, spark plugs, sensors etc. It is finally correct at least as best as I can get it without checking the timing. Do you know someone tried to tell me that i probably had a dead cylinder? Beware of these idiots out there!

One of the most basic and easiest replacements you can do when the engine does not perform properly. And yes, a bad wire can cause a cylinder to be "dead" or misfire. That "Idiot" was probably 100% correct.

Ignition system is probably the first thing that should be checked out for a rough running engine. Doing so by replacing parts is like going to a Casino. You may luck out once but in the long run your screwed.

I don't understand why you call him an idiot. He suggested you had a cylinder that wasn't firing, ie... no spark. I take it you assumed the worst by him using the term "dead cylinder".

Maybe what he should have told you was to check the wires to make sure each plug was getting spark, a logical troubleshooting step to determine why a cylinder isn't firing.
