so i managed to snap off our armrest storage door thingy.

on the drivers door of our 300SL.
like... it was a little loose for a while. but like i grabbed it (couldn't reach handle, broken rib) and when i did it just kinda fell off. how exactly is it attached? like screwed into just the panel or does it go farther. I don't actually have the hardware... coudn't find it...
this car is far from show and basically i'd just like a quick fix type thing...
i mean the things had a rough 140XXX life... just put it that way
taking it in to have a new drivers side headlight, headlight wiper motor, turnsignal, & foglamp put in tomorrow $$$$$$$$$$
any help is appeciated.
Thanks in advance.

I've broken both of mine. It happens because the plastic studs which hold it all together deteriorate over time and snap. It's repairable, but it's not easy. You need to remove the door panel. You'll find that the studs have a sheet metal type screw and washer on the backside, but the stud will be broken away. So, I drilled out the center of the studs, glued them back to the panel, then used a large head 10/32 machine screw inserted from the front side of the panel ( thru the stud ) and held on the inside with a washer/hex bolt. Of course, this causes the head of the new bolt to be visible when the cover is open. But I inked then with black magic marker and no one notices. This will make more sense when you get the panel off and see the problem for yourself.
