99 500SL won't start?

So this is strange. Took my SL into Enrique (SoCal guys know who this is) a few weeks ago when the CEL came on. He replaced the mass airflow sensor and all seemed good. Drove it for two days, then went away for the weekend. Upon return the car will not start. Engine cranks over, but will not fire. Checked all applicable fuses and all look good. No other outward signs of trouble. Yes it has fuel in the tank.

Any thoughts on how to diagnose? Thanks

Is the fuel pump running when you crank the starter? You can have someone crank while you put your hand on it and see if it vibrates.

The pump assembly is external, near the RR wheel. The relay "K27" is behind the panel on the right side of the trunk.

It is passable your ignition switch is going south.
Try moving the steering wheel up / down and in / out.
If it starts you found the problem.
Regards.
aam.

PS.
Sorry I did not see that it cranks.
Ck ign. coils for spark.
Fuel pumps when you turn key on do you hear the pumps hum, it will hum for a second or so.
Could be the pump relay.

I verified the fuel pump is energized. I'd rather not depressurize the fuel injectors to see what's doing up there. I'm also hesitant to ground a plug to see if there is spark for fear of bricking any ECUs.

Since the MAF sensor was just replaced, could anything have happened there to prevent it firing? Otherwise it's tow truck time....thanks!

Many times the 02 sensor wires touch the drive shaft causing a short to the fuel pump relay, preventing the engine from starting.
You may have to replace the relay, and the 02 sensor.
Please kip us posted.

Finally got around to towing it in - it was the TDC sensor that failed. Enrique diagnosed it and swapped it out quickly - he said he keeps 'em in stock at his shop as they fail frequently and (of course) completely disable the car

Glad you got it fixed, and Im happy for you that it wasn't the EZL.
