Smile Sun Visor 91 500 SL 129 Black Interior

The sun visor’s cover that turns on the two vanity lights has broken off (both sides) due to age and heat. I was told by the Mercedes dealer the hole visor has to be purchased. I recall reading elsewhere that this assembly could be purchased with out purchasing a complete visor, if so does anyone have a part number.

Mine are both broken also. Since I don't use the flip-up mirrors, I decided to just use sticky backed velcro to hold them together. Many of the small plastic pieces in my car are beginning to fail like this. I thought plastic would last indeffinitely, but that is not the case. My concern about buying "new" pieces is that they may be just as old ( manufacture date ) as what I have and thus just as likely to fail.

Broken Sun Visor Cover

I had the same problem on the drivers side of my '93 600SL. Replacement is a simple process. There are three clips on the bottom of the cover that can be easily snapped loose with a small flat screwdriver. This will allow the cover to be removed leaving the light bulbs and switch in place on the visor its self. The part number for the cover is 129-810-2317, followed by the four digit color code for your vehicle. Mine was 8F20 (light brown interior). I got my replacement part from my dealership for $53., but maybe the part can be found elsewhere cheaper. Re-installing it was simply a matter of snapping the new cover in place. Hope this info helps.
