Buying ANOTHER W107

Here's what Wikipedia says on the subject, although the expertise of the author is unknown.

The R107 took the chassis components of the mid size Mercedes-Benz W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class. The W 107 chassis is also referred to as "R 107" for "Reihe" (series). The series comprised SL and SLC models.
The SL variant was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and hardtop. The SLC (technically C107) derivative was a 2 door hardtop coupe, with usable rear seats and in effect an SL stretched 10 inches (254 mm) with a fixed roof.

Interesting. In all th tech. manuals I've read, none have referred to the SLC as a C107. But hey, who am I to disagree with Wikipedia. Guess he didn't make it up, I stand corrected.

The original email is available upon request. It is a very common misconception that all non-wagon vehicles start with a ‘W’. The ‘W’ comes from the German word for sedan – wargen. Now, the 107 has always been referred to as the 107 series hence the ‘R’ as mentioned in the Wiki snipped above.

Similarly the current SL’s chassis type is R-230 and the one between the 230 and 107 is the R-129.

That is what my parts guy calls it- w107. 450 SL so doe's my part book and the owner's manual.

in my neighborhood they even park them outside (all year)!

My 1972 350SL is out of the weather.
There are at least 4-5 which have been outside on the street rotting away unused (plus all the diesels too) which I walk by regularly.
