help with a starting problem with a SL60 please

Hi, I need some help with a starting problem with a SL60.

Intermittently, about once or twice a month, when the key is turned there is no response at all.

No clicking, no dash lamp dimming, no attempt from the starter motor, just nothing.

Wiggling the gear selector or key doesn’t help and never has.

Sometimes it will go on the next try; sometimes it takes 6 or 8 tries.

The local shop are no help, as it won’t do it when they have it with them.

Any ideas please ????????

I would start with the battery.

Seems like ever since cars came equipped with computerized engine management systems, I have no longer experienced the classic "slow starter turn" sympomatic of a battery on its last legs...it would either turn over, or it wouldn't ...or it would after several jerks of the ignition key. This has happened with ym former Mazda, Honda, and my current 300E.

I think this might be a failsafe mechanism to protect the sensitive electronics.

If the battery is more than 3 years old...it might be worth a look. Swap it out (if you can) temporarily with a good battery from an alternative vehicle and see what happens. Note: don't do this if the swap battery is not close to factory CCA specs, though.
