question about 1976 slc

hey guys,i just picked up a 1976 450slc and have a question.
was there ever a factory cover for the area where the battery and jack is located in the trunk? i do have the plastic black battery cover . its hard to elieve that mercedes would have left the battery and jack area uncovered .
thanks, also if anyone has a cover i would like to purchase.

There is a carpeted cover for the 560SL 86 and up. I would have assumed that all 107 with the battery in the back would have a cover.

They didn't start putting the fold down cover in until they started carpeting the trunk - sometime after 1975 and before 1978. My 75 just had the battery case and the heavy rubber mat on the floor of the trunk, my 78 has the full treatment with covers on both sides and fully carpeted. Both sides of the 75 trunk were open to the fender walls (which made me nervous and I never stored anything harder than a towel in the trunk).

My 76SLC just has the rubber mat over the spare tire (plastic) cover and the plastic box over the battery.

I've thought that carpeting would be the way to go, even if not technically correct for that year.

Yeah, my '78 SLC has the "full carpet suite". . .it looks a ton better the the rubber mat exposed bat box look. If you want pics to see what you need to do the conversion, let me know, Ill take them for you.

I think '77 was the 1st year though. . .

I'll take some pix of the pieces this afternoon and hopefully have them up by evening.

Heres a few pix of the trunk carpeting in my '78 SL-C. Unfortunately there were no part numbers to be found, I suspect they were on a sticker attached to the plastic pieces that fell off over the years. I hope this helps.

Trunk Carpet
Left wall<-All one piece covering the wall as well as the housing for the Hirschmann.
Partition Behind Fuel Tank
Battery Box Cover
Battery Box Cover (inside)
Carpet on Back of Trunk<-Covers whole wall except for the gray portion of the tail lamps.

yeah, it really does, but I look at it this way, the little extras like lack of wood and the old AC system (yeah in the long run it beats ACCII) and the no frills trunk and steel wheels make the benzes of that era more reminiscent of their roots.
