Mystery handles

What are the strap iron bent over levers just inside the kick panels against the outside of the seats for (380sl)? I hope they are seat height, but I can't get enough motion out of them to figure out what they release-adjust.

They're supposed to be seat height.

Thanks for responding. Do the handles only move approximately 1/2-3/4 inch to release, or do I need to get more motion out of the handles to get it going. I assume up is released? Also, is it an inclined slide like my 240 or rotating around shafts like some truck seats?

The seat height adjustment on the later 380s and the 560s is a tricky setup with springs and levers. I've never fixed one, sorry I can't help there, but I'm sure others have.

Pump it up and down and the seat will ratchet up. Pushing down fully will release the mechanism sending the seat back down to the bottom. There is a rather large spring that I can't see ever failing but there are two springs on each ratchet mechanism (per seat) that if missing or broken will affect the operation.
