seat height adjuster 1984 280 sl euro

with the lever all the way forward the seat will drop..if you jump on it

but it does not engage .. first dump I go over it pops up again or when I get out of the car..

can anyone advise please

It's mechanical, mine was binding and I disassembled it and lubed it.

Twenty five years lets a lot of crud get in the mechanism.

I got fed up with mine.
I removed the big spring.
Problem solved.

You are missing one of the springs on one or both of the ratchet mechanisms.

You must pull the lever back up to lock it at the level you want.
