1987 560sl

Hi,

Looking for advice with a recent problem I have on my 1987 560sl. It will lose power going uphill when I hit the gas. The car has about 130000 miles on it. Prior to this happening there was a point where there was a delay of pickup speed when hitting the gas.

Thank you,

George

Could be debis in the fuel tank, fuel filter, fuel pump or accumulator.
OR could be problem with fuel distributor. I would replace fuel filter and clean out fuel tank and see what happens. Is the problem just when you go uphill or everytime you step on gas? Does it hesitate and then kick in or just hesitates all the time i.e. when you step on gas does it slowly speed up or coughs and then goes?

Give us a little more info please. Does it lack power on level ground. What happens when you punch it on level ground. Is the transmission kicking down. Is your O2 sensor working does the light come on when you check it at start up. When was the last time you replaced the O2

Thank you for the help. In the beginning it would cough hesitate than go. Now it stays down losing power until I let pff the gas then it will go somewhat.

I have a fuel filter and will try that first.

I will also look for the O2 sensor light on startup.

Thanks again,

O2 sensor light does not come one during start up. Not sure on the last time it was replaced. I just got the car las t summer.

I'm now wondering if I should try the sensor first before replacing the filter.

Car does seem to downshift when hitting gas but going nowhere at least not very fast.

What do you think?

Thanks,

First thing is to get the O2 light to work. Probably just a bulb. Then trouble shoot bu doing a search hear or in Tech help on how to adjust the CIS system.

Well, not sure what happen, but it started running well again. Did check the hoses and fuel pumps but did not change the filter at this time.

Also did find a loose wire under the hood but not sure it had anything to do with it.

Still working on the o2 light. Thanks for the help.
