Exclamation good advice needed~450 SL issue

would anyone know exactly why :
1. my 75 450 sl starts cold with no high idle,
2. it seems to runs great at warm,
3. it wastes so much fuel there has to be something wrong,
4. Finally, there is a smell of gas I mean you can smell it while the car is running- out of the exhaust-a friend was following me and said he really smelt it-

Is there a lean or rich adjustment that i can find on this car somewhere?

Please thanks in advance anything will be tried asap.

If you can smell gas then you got yourself a leak somewhere. I had a gas smell & when I was swapping out the valve cover gaskets & getting things back together w/my dad we found that one of the fuel lines into the fuel distributor was leaking. Tightened that sucker down & no more gas smell.

You definitely need to start with the gas leak in my opinion.
