Hey Guys, Phil Here. Has anybody tried or installed a Inexpesive 4 Exhaust Pipe arraingment out the back of there 500SL? It might look very Cool. I would not mind Custom Cutting my rear valance to accept this type of system. Any comments on this venture would be appreciated.

Anybody happen to know where one can get chrome exhaust tips for the small, curved, connected pair on a 380sl? I've been looking for quite a while :-(

Thanks for any help.

4 Tip Exhaust

Hey Guys, Thanks for the suggestions aam, I am stuck at home this week with some sort of " Bad A**" Cold or something, So I have lots of time to play with the Idea of a 4 Tip Exhaust System on the 500Sl.

I will research this to death before I start Chopping up my Sweet stock SL. As you can see this is what I do when I'm bored and can not be out driving. I have not been out to look under my car to see what kind of system is hanging up there but I do have a Performance Prod. catalog that shows the overall Exhaust system. As aam states, there is no room to fabricate a 4 tip system as is exists.

I am going with the Idea of eliminating the "rear" Muffler and fabricating a Bolt-on 4 Tip Exhaust manifold exiting thru the rear. in place of the Muffler. I will retain the the original large rear Muffler and Pipe to be bolted back up, if and when needed.

As of now everything looks good on "Paper" as most ideas do, but I don't know if the performance of my 500Sl will be compromised by eliminating the rear Muffler. There might be a "back pressure' or Oxygen sensor problem, I don't know at this time. Any feed back on this issue would be appreciated. If there might be even the slightest problem with my project I will toss the Idea and go on being sick for another couple of days.

I have seen someone put a Y pipe into the mix, and get the double/quad tips you want.

Phil Here again, Just playing around and Re-touching a Photo of what the 4 Tip set-up might look like on my 500SL? As you can see, there are numerous possibilities. I still have to know if this modification will effect the complicated performance of my Super running SL. Maybe some of you Technical guys could put your two cents in on this Idea?

Don't know about performance, but it looks pretty slick. I wouldn't think it would affect your engine performance with a change in back pressure. Most of that comes before you get to the point that you're modifying.
