1996 sl 320 starting problem

Ignition switch is notorious for going bad. Do a forum search "ignition switch". Crankshaft sensor does not, to my knowledge, prevent starter from running. Also, possible issue: nuetral switch, negative battery cable, and just plain old bad starter motor. I'd use a volt meter to check for voltage at the starter motor terminal while someone activates the ignition switch.
