a little vin help on my new 450sl
Hello Gents
Yesterday i added a black on black 450sl 1973 to my stable. Its an odd little car with what looks to be amg moldings front and back and i hate to say it but a WHALE tale rear deck spoiler. As most of my Mercedes have been 1983 or newer I am unsure how to check this vin for any relevant info on the car. Is this possible to confirm amg status via vin or was this all add ons after the car was purchased since amg was a separate company back then? I seem to remember reading a while ago that black on black 73 450sl's were rare. Is this true? I wont have the car till later today so i will post pics. I am also not sure if it is even truly black or just painted afterwards when the kit was added, will have to check the color code today. anyway just saying hi as i am totally new to the 107 chassis and i am sure will be back with many questions and comments. |

Welcome to the forum. Lots of knowledge here.
That is not a "whale" tail. It should be called a "wail" tail as that is what most of the Benz'ers here will do when they see it, "Why, oh why, would ANYONE do that to a Benz?" |

I was poking around on the benzworld site, and apparently there's an AMG site where you can put in a VIN and it will tell you if it's the real deal or fakey-do. I am going to move this to the SL forum where you will get more interest.

my thoughts exactly on the tail issue why oh why!! but its a good looking car and i love black on black. This makes my 5th benz but my first vintage so to speak. Hopefully it will not turn into to big of a money pit!
any thoughts on the rarity of the black on black 1973 450sl's? |
