Question How can I re-attach the hood insulation on my 450sl?

Over the weekend, I guess I left my hood open too long, because at some point the padding/insulation under the hood came unglued and was just hanging by one corner.

What is the best way to re-attach this? Is there a particular glue/adhesive that works best?

Also, do I have to remove the hood, or is there a way to do it while leaving the hood on?

Thanks!

Adhesive

I use spray contact adhesive. Napa carries it for sticking insulation. It's also a common hardware store item. Just peel back the insulation slightly, apply a LIGHT spray to both the hood and the back of the foam. Let both surfaces dry, then press the foam against the hood. The spray adhesive is also easy to remove with adhesive remover (xylene+acetone?) for when it's time to replace the whole pad later.

3M makes some stuff called Trim Adhessive. That's what I used to put my hood pad in. You don't have to take your hood off, just cover your fenders well so you don't get overspray on them.

insulglue

Just to add to the data base, I used Liquid Nails applied with a caulking gun.

Don't have to remove hood.
