Shimmy when braking
My 1986 560SL front end shimmys on hard stops, and slightly moves the wheel on slower stops. Where should I start looking?

I would start with the front brake rotors. Sound like they are warped.

Tires alone will do this too...

I'm betting it's the front rotors. However, to eliminate the tires from consideration, try rotating them (and ensuring correct inflation pressures).
Good luck!

I had the same problem with my 87 560SL when I first bought it. I had the front rotors turned and new pads put on front. 12 thousand miles later and still no shimmy.
