1983 mercedes 500 SL Heat will not shut off!
I can't get the heat to trun off on the car. My first thought is that it might be the Heater control Valve. If so, where is that located. Could it be the switch? Let me know if you have any other ideas. Thanks Nick.

The following is my experience as gained through my 450SL:
There is a heater control valve leading into the heater core and is controlled by a vacuum element. If the diaphragm in the element has a hole in it and you move the control lever in the cab to the off position, the vacuum applied to the element will not move the control arm and thus not shut off the heater control valve. You can remove the vacuum element and bench test it. You could unhook the control arm and wire it in the close position until you figure out why the control vavle is not shutting off. Good luck...
