I'm trying to sell a hardtop. Trying to get an idea of pricing.

Consider the fact that in the USA, all SLs had the hardtop as standard. Since you reference a SL500, I assume that that this is a R129. As the cars age, the number of running SLs decrease, leaving a surplus of hardtops.
So, the value of a hardtop is dependent upon the need. Most people will not require an additional hardtop, so the value can be ridiculously low. A loose hardtop is a needed item only if the buyer requires a part of the hardtop that may be costly, such as the rear window. While the MB value of a hardtop may be in the thousands, demand places the price in the hundreds, or less. Jim

I sold a perfect one for $500. Anything less than perfect is almost unsalable unless it's a panoramic top.
