Similar and highly interchangeable but not the same. An SL engine is a 130.983 while the sedan is a 130.980. SLs are valuable enough today that it's not a good idea to be putting in an incorrect engine. The market for 113 SLs today is Europeans and they don't like incorrect engines and they do check.
