560sl 1986 - little fuel pressure

My 560SL from 1986 was running and all of a sudden it stopped running. It does not start up anymore. Have checked the sensor valve at the fuel distributor and I think there is too little fuel pressure.

I have been reading this forum and there was a post about the fuel pressure accumulator. I am not very familiar with that thing. I can recognize it from the picture of a fuel pressure accumulator. Is the fuel pressure accumulator situated next to the 2 fuel pumps? (I have never had a car with 2 fuel pumps.)

Could this fuel pressure accumulator be the problem. If so, how do I check this fuel pressure accumulator if it is working or not?

Any advice will be welcome. Thank you

The most basic check

Have someone crank the starter while you put your hand on the fuel pumps to see if they are running. If they are not, it's probably a bad fuel pump relay.

Does the tank make a Whoosh noise when you turn the gas cap? Could me something as simple as the tank vent or tank screen.

Any news on this one? My 87 560SL is behaving badly and I suspect the fuel pumps. Took it on a short test drive today after I had re-checked the crank position sensor, and it will die in a turn, coming to a stop, even while driving. The pumps have always buzzed at start up, but now they sound very different. The car will sit at idle, but driving is when the stalling starts. After this short warm-up and drive this morning, I opened the fuel cap when the car was back in the garage and there was no pressure to release. Looking for feedback as always. Thanks.

This really sounds like you have a plugged tank screen. Pumps making noise, and stumbling at anything more than idle. Easy to check with a fuel volume test, lots of posts on how to do it, and it's on the CD.
