85 380sl won't start
This is an extra car with 83k miles usually driven once a week. Car has always started first try for 3 years, sometimes with half a pedal of gas during cranking.
My wife tried to start it and for some reason pumped the pedal 6 times to the floor before turning the key. It wouldn't start and I figured it was because it was flooded. I let the car sit over night and tried again this morning with no luck. Turns over normally but nothing else. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

Do these basic tests ...
Have the wife crank the starter, while you put your hand on the fuel pump (near RR wheel). Can you feel vibration/running while it cranks?
- if yes, test for spark by unplugging a plug wire from the dist. cap and holding it just above its connection while starter is cranked. - if no, measure voltage at pump's terminals with meter or test light.

Its an ignition problem
Ignition Control Unit (ICU)
Coil Distributor I've had to replace all three of these on my '82 SL at various times. Would not start after norman run and shut down. Coil and distriburor can be bought at Auto Zone. ICU at salvage yards. |
