A/C Heater Blower: '87 560SL

What is a good source for a used blower for my '87 560SL. I cannot afford the $700 plus for a new or refurbish blower. I tried Ebay and only one showed up and it looked like a dead one. What should I expect to pay for used, running blower?

My blower didn't work when I bought my car a year ago. I took the blower motor out of it's housing and took it to an electric motor repair shop. They fixed it for $60.00 and it's been working like a charm ever since.

My blower casing was cracked, at the place in the center that secures the motor, causing the squirril (sp?) cage fans to hit the sides of the housing. Some JB Weld and a piece of aluminum and pop rivits fixed it. It still hits now and then, so I'll be removing it again to check the alignment. I've seen them on EBay for $50.00 occasionally, more like $300.00 quite often.

If you do buy a replacement, be sure to check the part number. There are some differences between years and models, particularly EURO models like my 85 500SL. If your not sure of the correct part number for your car, you can contact the Mercedes Classic Center. I have found them to be very helpful answering my questions, supplying part numbers and part images via email.

560SL A/C blower

The casing on my blower is broken, too. Also the cover for the blower compartment has a crack in it plus a small chip out of one corner. I'm pretty sure rain got in the blower compartment and rusted the bearings. The blower front-side bolts in the blower compartment rusted through. The back side bolts are okay. I'm not sure how I'll secure the blower when a do get a working one, but maybe I can use epoxy. I broke the blower casing trying to get it open to lube the bearings. I think the casing can still be put together if I can fit it properly though I probably won't trust the blower.

A/C blower

I looked at the blower on Ebay and it does look good. I'm ready to buy but need to verify whether it will fit my '87 560SL. The part number given by the seller is: part number 107 830 01 08. I've tried verifying that part number on merecdes web sites but haven't found the official part number. I've asked the seller if it will fit but haven't yet received an answer. Where/how can I verify the part number?

Edit: I found this part number for my '87 560SL: Blower Assembly For Heating and A/C 107 830 03 08. That's close but not exact. The Ebay part is number: 107 830 01 08. Does anybody know whether the Ebay blower will fit my car?

I don't think they are the same. I plugged in both part numbers in the ********e web site and they come back with blower descriptions that are slightly different. You can check it in the search by part number field on their web site.

The same thing happened to my front bolts. So I drilled holes right next to the broken studs and passed screws with washers, to keep the screws in place, up through the holes. I then expanded the holes in the blower motor, passed the screws into the holes, and secured them with washers and nuts. Before you put the motor back on, though, make sure the gasket is lying flat, and secure it with 3M weatherstripping glue if necessary.

Also, before you put the motor back on, you might want to plug any rust holes in the plenum with plumber's putty/epoxy, to prevent water from leaking into the foot-wells.

Sounds like rusted out blower compartments is common in the 107's and is a real tough fix. Mine was to far gone for a simple fix. I went through the work of taking out the dash and heater box. I also went through the expense of buying a rust free donor section and having it welded in place. $1,800 bucks and 30 hours of labor on my part and it's nearly as good as new.

Replacing that compartment is a real commitment. I'm just trying to get this car in good enough shape to sell it.

I don't know whether an '83 380 lower will work. I'll have to do some parts # research. If it will work, how much do you want for it?

Meltedpanda. . . I guess your blower won't work. It's part number is 107 830 02 08. I'm wondering what the "02" and "01" and in my case the "03" designates. Anybody hazard a guess?

Edit: I've noticed that the regulator configuration is different on the three blower photos I've examined. Perhaps that is the meaning to the numbers.

Wow!! Really nice job, but way beyond anything i'd like to tackle, at least at this point. It's a shame MB wasn't far sighted enough to rustproof this area and/or design a better drainage system for the 107. So, many of us now have to deal with these and other problems.
