What size allen wrench fits the oil plug on a 79 450 SL

dont know about the 79 but you need a 14mm allen key to do the 74 and the 76. I would assume its the same but Ive been caught out before

Try the bolt head on various sizes of standard and metric bolts. I use a bent 3" long (aprox.) bolt (in the vise) with slightly filed down flats. It took less time to make this than I'd spend searching for the 'correct' allen key or socket around town (or was it a Sunday and no one that stocks same was open? I may have made it up in a pinch and still use it).

its a 14 or 16 mm. . I forget.. probally a 14 like posted above, mine is sitting in my toolbox downstairs right now, if you're in a pinch, a pair of vicegrips to the outside of the bolt will do the trick.
