Rocker Panel Polish and a few questions
Hey,
so, working on perfecting my 450sl. All I gotta do is the grill (chrome), and maybe ill still do the rims too, that chrome is old. However, what's worst are the rocker panels, the chrome things below the door, stretching from one wheel to the other. Theyre dented, and the chrome polish has faded with a billion scratched- can I polish that? I guess I cant get rid of all the dents, but polishin might work, I heard. And, uhm, any advice on the seats? Theyre uncomfortable- is that the horse hair pads, or the leather, or both?!? Thanx guys Franz |

I'm not certain about the 450SL, but the trim strips below the doors on my 560SL are stainless, not chromed. You can carefully work the dents out and then polish (buff, actually) with a buffing wheel and compound meant for stainless. Some preliminary sanding with fine grit (800, 600) might be required also before buffing. Do some reading up on this in the detailing forum.

Buffing works, and SMALL dents can be worked/sanded out, but it isn't easy and replacements are available. You really should replace all mounting hardware if it's removed, and you can't really do a good job without removing it.
